This one is for Edric Haleen's Songwriting Cycle #2. Imagine, if you would, eleven songwriters seated in a circle. Each writes down a challenge, then passes it to the artist on his left. That's pretty much the concept here. We were challenged by Graham Porter (aka Emperor Gum) to write a song about someone or something that is haunted.
My dictionary lists six specific meanings of the word "haunted":
1. (adj) Having or showing excessive or compulsive concern with something
2. (adj) Showing emotional affliction or disquiet
3. (adj) Inhabited by or as if by apparitions
4. (verb) Follow stealthily or recur constantly and spontaneously to
5. (verb) Haunt like a ghost; pursue
6. (verb) Be a regular visitor to a certain place
This song uses them all.

BLOOD MOON
wmh & dfl, April 7th 2011
There's a light in the sky
And through the oaken leaves and Spanish moss it shines
And you and I
Once again keep our date with the constellations
On a highway to nowhere
Through a tunnel of oak
A bitter sweet reunion
A past life, a lost soul lingers within me still
And here I stand beneath the Blood Moon
As I have for twenty years
Trembling with the expectation
That I'll find you here.
And I can see you
Pulling the mist like a cloak about you
And I can feel you
As cold as never caring
Do you bring darkness down on me
Or is it just the night?
Will you escape my tender touch
As we relive our dance tonight?
The breath of life escaping
Through my fingers slipping
May the the Earth embrace you
Where I left you 'neath the Blood Moon long ago.
And here I stand beneath the Blood Moon
As I have for twenty years
Trembling with the expectation
That I'll find you here,
Where I left you 'neath the Blood Moon long ago.
